The Lundquist Research Group had a fantastic time at the NAWEA/WindTech 2024 meeting hosting by Rutgers University Oct 30-Nov 1 this year.
- Prof. Lundquist participated in the IEA Wind “Impact of Extreme Weather conditions on Wind Energy Systems” Topical Expert Meeting #112, presenting work with Miguel Sanchez Gomez and Yorgos Deskos on simulations of Tropical Cyclones.
- Grad student Nathan Agarwal presented his simulations of wakes from North Sea wind farms as simulated with two different planetary boundary layer schemes.
- Grad student Muna Hafsah presented her simulations of low-level jets in the U.S. East Coast wind resources areas.
- Julie presented grad student Andrew Kumler’s work on subselecting data for analysis of cluster wakes.
- Julie presented (recently graduated) undergrad student Eva Ramm’s poster on how wind turbines affect lightning – and the poster won one of the three best poster awards! (It’s striking that, of the 50+ poster, two total posters were on lightning, and two of the three poster awards went to the two lightning posters!)
- Julie presented soon-to-be JHU postdoctoral researcher William Radünz’s AWAKEN simulations and the impact of initial and boundary conditions on those simulations
- Julie presented her simulations of wake effects on surface temperatures at AWAKEN
Lundquist group members were co-authors on other great presentations from colleagues and collaborators as well – what a fun and stimulating meeting!
